Tracey Emin
Material influence (I couldn't find any of her hotel stationary drawings, this was the closest I could find online) But she has these really touching drawings ranging from scrawled messages to figure drawings on hotel stationary. I find I also tend to use found paper sources or materials that are beautiful unto themselves or at least interesting and use them to record something new. Also Emin's uses a lot of her personal and intimate expirience as subject material which I find I tend to do.

Egon Schiele- Schiele Drawing Nude before Window- 1910- pencil
Aesthetic influence
There's something increadibly real, beautiful, and uncomfortable in the way Schiele renders both the human figure and landscapes. His style functions as an interpretation of the world beyond a photo realistic model.

James Castle - mixed media construction
aesthetic, material and process influence
Castle is probably the artist I'm most interested in right now. He used whatever materials were available to him and also created a new language in his art-presenting an eerie understanding of or experience with the world around him.

Henry Darger- mixed media
aesthetic and material and process influence
Darger is fascinating. I love the collage look of this, but that it's all very delicate- the water coloring Darger did was simple and beautiful. I appreciate that he recylced images from other sources in his art. His obsession with translating this fantastical world resulted in a very throrough and exciting exploration of a different kind of art.
