Jack Nicholson- Phoebe Currier

Phoebe Currier
The series of drawings in Phoebe Currier was for the audience to link to Jack Nicholson. Based on her manipulation of her series, she concentrated abstracting the idols image to challenge the audience to recognize series. She made it clear that through all of the images it was the celebrity itself. She also mentions that she used a photograph to resemble all of her images. The fist one method that she used was making the Jack Nicholson as realistic as possible; she did it by using cross hatching and blending to create a 3 dimensional form of the picture. The other two methods were making using the highlight of the photograph itself this, making the image as a topographical map, using different tones to show how deep was their facial features. This one seems to be the most abstracted due to the tones that how disfigured the image was for one to recognize it was Jack Nicholson. Her third method was also broken up to different facial features, as like her second method, but in this one instead of making tone values she only used one used by compress charcoal.
Her medium to create this drawings was primarily charcoal. Based on her drawings it was clear that she work well using that medium mostly because of the realistic image of Jack Nicholson was so vivid. Although her images where really neat and realistic, there were some smudges that distracted the audience from looking at the image itself. This was not a big problem due to how light the smudges where.
Overall she used her method well, by challenging her audience to recognize Jack Nicholson. The realistic image was a reference point, as a needed image for the audience to know who the person was. Therefore the series of drawings successfully worked well being put next to each other, to reinforce that there were the same person. Something interesting about the piece was the use of charcoal and how the realistic image was so vivid due to the tone of values she used. Mostly the crosshatching and the smudging of the hair and the wrinkles of the face gave away his age, and how these person facial characteristics were important to recognize the person itself.
Although each piece looked different, they were more connected. They supported each other to show how the facial features of a person are important to be able to be recognized. She also showed that through this images psychology is present, due to how one can depict a person by how disfigured the image could be. The audiences realize that all of the images were drawing of Jack Nicholson. That is why this piece series is strong by how associated they were which one another.
